What Tanning Salons Don't Want You To Know: Part 2
Last month we described how some salons use lower level beds to save money on expenses, and load their beds with bulbs that contain higher doses of UVB to fool you into believing you are getting better results (UVB gets the outer layer of your skin and produces a pinkish color, which fools some people into believing they are getting color, when in fact you are simply burning your skin. You do need some UVB to tan, but you don't need, nor do you want tanning beds that are loaded with UVB).
Shady Tactics
The second ‘shady' tactic that you should be aware of is again related to ‘bulb spacing' in tanning beds. Once again, salons who want to save money buy cheap tanning beds that may look nice in appearance from the outside, but if you take a close look at the bulbs, you may notice that the bulbs are spaced farther apart than a quality salon such as Royal Tan And Spa :-)
Why should you care?
A cheap tanning bed that has a significant space between bulbs causes striping! Yes, striping...like a zebra, or tacky bowling shirts, or prison uniforms, or...ok you get the idea. Espcially if you go to that salon quite often. If you notice striping from tanning at a salon, you should look elsewhere for your tanning needs.
What do you do about striping?
Go to another salon with better tanning beds.
Tan in higher intensity, more advanced tanning beds (like the Sun Ergoline 450 or 600).
Do a Mystic Tan
There is a second little known tactic that salon owners use to save money with regard to bulb changes, and this causes striping as well. We will cover that in next months issue.
