Whether you
choose to use a self tanner spray or a spray-tanning booth, consider
these 6 spray tanning secrets to ensure the best possible outcome
1. Exfoliate
and prepare your skin properly before your session - All the
self-tanners in the world will do you no good if it attaches itself
to dead skin that is about to come off your body! Use a good exfoliant
when you are bathing before your spray tan session to remove these
dead skin cells. Also, applying a good water based or Aloe based-based
moisturizer after you shower is a great way to make sure your
skin is ready to accept the self-tanner.
2. Do
Not Wear Tight Clothing And Closed-Toe Shoes Immediately After
Session: Wear loose fitting clothing, preferably not white,
to avoid staining from the bronzer which is in most spray tan
solutions.
3. Follow
the instructions you are given. Self-tanning booths and self-applicators
typically have a handout or video that shows you what to do step-by-step,
so pay attention and ask questions if you are unsure about instructions.
Don't cut corners to save time, it isn't worth it!
4. Apply
cream to your hands and feet before the spray application
- Because these areas of the skin are usually drier than the rest
of you, your hands and feet will get darker than other parts of
your body. If you are spraying yourself, go lightly on the feet.
If you are using a booth, use the paper booties (usually offered
by staff) to protect your feet or apply a light coating of cream
to your hands and feet to filter the solution. Be sure to put
a little extra around the cuticles and nail beds.
5. Completely
wipe off after your session. No dabbing. It's best to start
with the backs of your legs and work your way up to avoid getting
streaks from the cosmetic bronzer in the solution. Don't dab,
or you will likely streak.
6. Do
Not Shower or exercise too soon after your session: You want
to wait a minimum of 4-6 hours after your session before showering
and removing the solution. The longer you leave it on, the darker
the tan and longer it will last (up to a maximum of 24 hours)!
Many people leave it on overnight and shower the next morning.
