In What Tanning Salon Don't Want You To Know: Part 2, we described one way a salon might cause you to look like a Zebra, and that's simply by using low quality tanning beds that may look nice on the outside, but in order to save money, these beds have fewer bulbs and they are spread apart. As a result, they strip you.

The second, and maybe the most common problem amongst some salons, is striping which occurs as a result of not changing all the bulbs in the bed at the same time. What a salon will do to save money is change every other bulb in the bed so that you think the bulbs are fresh, but in fact, only half of them are. And since they skip a bulb, that area will not tan you very well, and eventually you get striping.

At Royal Tan And Spa, we change all of our bulbs at the same time and before the manufacturers recommended time. This costs us a lot of money, but we know that our customers are smart, and we want you to stay with us over the long haul. You are very important to our success!

About Cleaning…

Cleaning the acrylics (the plastic that holds you above the bulbs) is crucial to your tanning results. You might be thinking, “Duh, it's cleaned every time I go into my tanning session.” That is true (and we use industrial strength cleaners on our beds to ensure they are well cleaned). But how often does a salon have the acrylics cleaned on the inside (the opposite side that you are laying on)? This is very important because there are powerful fans blowing, and dust accumulates quite quickly. This dust settles on the inside and it diminishes the power of the bulbs considerably.

We hire a professional technician to clean our beds inside and out every time the bulbs are changed. In addition, if we notice anything ourselves, my husband or myself are right on top of it. Even if we need to replace a part in the bed, we clean the inside of the acrylic.
